Thanks to a friend whod decided to drive around Texas in 4 days, I discovered a photographer which really appeals to me. He is not a brand new photographer but I just didn't know him.
He seems to have worked first under the influence of Walker Evans and travelled from East to West, from New York to Amarilo, taking photographs on the road : landscapes, small towns, details ... and published in 1982 a book of photographs entitled Uncommon Places.
When you journey through Texas you certainly drive through lots of weird little towns, like Presidio, by the mexican border. It's empy, quiet but...who knows what may happen there...
Thierry Girard, french photographer and great admirer of Stephen Shore, led me to the american photographer.
But Thierry Girard is an excellent photographer himself and his work in black and white is quite interesting as the french guy took a picture of the same place, 10 years later, without knowing the first picture ! Coïncidence !
Plus, Thierry Girard on his blog, makes all kind of commentaries about the pictures he took during his own trip to Texas and elsewhere... Much to read (as soon as I can spare a few hours !)
